Important Matters Concerning Foreign Currency Deposits
Before you leave Japan and change your status of residence to that of another country, you must cancel your Sony Bank account. This page contains information related to the cancellation process. All cancellation procedures must be completed via our English online banking.
The buying and selling of bank accounts and cash cards is a crime. Such activities are punishable by imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to one million yen.
Before cancelling your account
You must complete the following procedures before you cancel your Sony Bank account. Please sign in to our English online banking to confirm the completion of these procedures.
If you have forgotten your password and cannot sign in to our English online banking, please reset your password.
- Complete all Foreign currency remittances

You cannot cancel your bank account if you have pending foreign currency transactions. Please note that foreign currency transactions may take up to one month to complete.

If you have any Foreign currency savings accounts, please cancel them from the "Cancelling All Foreign Currency Savings Accounts at Once" page after signing in to our English online banking.
Canceling All Foreign Currency Savings Accounts at Once
Upon cancellation of your Foreign currency savings accounts, the remaining balance of the canceled accounts will be transferred to your Yen savings account. When transferring funds to your Yen savings account, the exchange rate and exchange fee at the time of cancellation will be applied.
Please note that you can only cancel your Foreign currency savings accounts within our foreign currency trading hours.

If you are using products or services only available on the Japanese language website, such as Yen time savings account or Foreign currency time deposits, please sign in to the Japanese language website and complete the cancellation procedures. If you have any questions regarding products or services only available on the Japanese language website, please contact the Customer Center (available only in Japanese).
Please note that it may not be possible to cancel your account if there are pending scheduled transactions, such as cashback on your Sony Bank WALLET (Visa Debit), scheduled fund transfers, etc.
How to cancel your account
You can cancel your Yen savings account via our English online banking. Please go to our "Account Cancellation" page after signing in and follow the procedures.
If, at the time of cancellation, you have a remaining balance in your Yen savings account, we will transfer your funds to the beneficiary account specified by you during the cancellation procedure. This account needs to be under your name and with a financial institution in Japan. We do not charge any fees for this fund transfer. After you have canceled your account, please ensure that the transferred funds have arrived in the beneficiary account before discarding your Sony Bank WALLET and One-time password token.
If you have lost your token or cash card and are unable to complete the above procedures using our English online banking, please contact our English help desk.
If you have no beneficiary account under your name with a financial institution in Japan, the balance in your Sony Bank Yen savings account cannot be transferred. Please use your Sony Bank WALLET to withdraw the total balance of your Yen savings account in cash from a partner ATM.
After you have withdrawn your total balance, please complete the cancellation procedure via our English online banking or contact our English help desk.
If you have already left Japan
If you did not cancel your Sony Bank account prior to changing your status of residence to that of another country, please contact our English help desk.
