Your Yen savings account is covered by deposit insurance
Sony Bank's Yen savings account, Yen time deposit (service only available in Japanese) and Yen installment time deposit (service available only in Japanese) are covered by deposit insurance.
Under the deposit insurance system, in case a financial institution where you have deposited your money happens to fail, up to 10 million yen of the total principal amount of your deposits, time deposits, certain money trusts, and financial bonds, and the interest will be protected. Any amount in excess of 10 million yen, interest, deposits not covered by deposit insurance, etc. will be paid according to the status of the assets of the failed financial institution.

Account holders can access partner and convenience store ATMs all over Japan. Sony Bank does not charge additional service fees after business hours; such as at night, or during weekends or bank holidays.

Make Direct Payments From Your Account

With Sony Bank WALLET (a cash card with Visa Debit functionality), you can make Visa debit payments from your Yen savings account at merchants where Visa is accepted anytime, anywhere. You can also use your card to pay for utility bills such as electricity and gas. Earn up to 2.0% cashback, depending on your Club S level, every month on all your payments made inside Japan.
