Receiving Pension Benefits

As a Sony Bank customer, you can receive pension benefits such as National Pension or Employees' Pension automatically in your Sony Bank account.

Procedures

STEP 1Prepare the necessary documents
For Customers who have not yet received pension benefits

You will receive an "Application for Pension (年金請求書 nenkin seikyusho)" form from the Japan Pension Service three months before you reach the age at which pension payments begin. For details, please refer to the Japan Pension Serivice website (information only available in Japanese).

For Customers currently receiving pension benefits

Download and print out the "Pension Beneficiary: Request Form to Change the Beneficiary Financial Institution (年金受給権者 受取機関変更届 nenkin jukyukensha uketori kikan henko todoke)" form from the Japan Pension Service website (information only available in Japanese).

STEP 2Fill in the necessary information and prepare the required documents

Fill in the required information on the Request Form to Change the Beneficiary Financial Institution and prepare the required supporting documents as stated on the Japan Pension Service website.
Regarding the required documents of "Beneficiary Financial Institution Bank Book, etc.", as Sony Bank does not issue a physical bank book, please sign in to our English online banking and use a printout of the "Customer Information" screen as a substitute document.

If you are unable to print out the Customer Information screen

Please send us the form (Request Form to Change the Beneficiary Financial Institution) to Sony Bank since the documents require Sony Bank's verification seal when submitted to Japan Pension Services. We will confirm your account and return the forms to you after affixing our verification seal.

STEP 3Submit the necessary documents

Please submit all relevant documents by postal mail or visit your local Pension Office or Pension Consultation Center on or after the day before the age at which you start receiving benefits (your birthday).

Cashless shopping

Payments made with your Sony Bank WALLET (a cash card with Visa Debit functionality) are debited within the range of your account balance, so there is no need to worry about overspending.

Available at convenience store and partner ATMs in Japan

Withdrawal of cash at a nearby convenience store or partner ATMs whenever you require. All customers receive four fee-waived withdrawals per month.

NOTES
  • Approximately within two months after submitting the Application for Pension form, you will receive a "Pension Certificate (年金証書 nenkin shosho)" or "Pension Determination Notice (年金決定通知書 nenkin kettei tsuchisho)", followed by the "Pension Transfer Notice (年金送金通知書 nenkin sokin tsuchisho) which will approximately take further two months then receiving of your pension resumes.
    In principle, your pension for the previous two months will be paid on the 15th of each even-numbered month beginning with the month following the month in which you become eligible to receive pension benefits. If the 15th falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or a national holiday, your pension will be paid on the weekday immediately preceding the 15th.
  • As the procedure to change your pension beneficiary financial institution may take a certain amount of time, please ensure that you complete the necessary procedures at least one month prior to your next pension payment date. In addition, even after you have updated your bank account details, please keep your old account open as a precaution until you have confirmed the first pension payment to Sony Bank.
